Now, Harley-Davidson is not exactly the go-to brand for cheap motorcycles, but amongst some of its past iconic releases, there are a few that wouldn’t break the bank to purchase. That said, here are 5 classic Harley-Davidson models that are still affordable.
Harley-Davidson Fat Bob
The muscular build of the Fat Bob is hard to ignore, even though its comfort is mediocre. This model has made a mark on Harley Davidson’s lineup, steering away from its traditional approach to styling. While it isn’t the best option for a long-distance Harley-Davidson, it’s a powerful option, with modern models featuring the Milwaukee-Eight 114a. Although the Fat Bob has been discontinued, according to JD Power, a 2019 model will typically retail around $11,655.
Harley-Davidson Iron 883
Belonging to the Sportster family, the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is one agile two-wheeler that offers excellent driveability and style. The name appears to pay homage to the classic Harley ironhead engine, while the design takes inspiration from the Nightster motorcycle. This beginner-friendly machine hit the streets nearly 16 years ago, and it remains one of the company’s most iconic entry-level bikes. And while it doesn’t offer as much power as some alternatives, it embodies the qualities of a true Harley, so it hardly feels like you’re missing out on much. You can find a 2016 model up for sale for about $7,500.
Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic
The Heritage Softail has been a part of the Harley-Davidson Softail family for about four decades. Like other Softails, it’s known for its retro aesthetic and rear-wheel suspension, distinguishing it from the Hardtail. This model, however, takes a couple of steps further in terms of performance and features, with a more powerful engine, better fuel capacity and added passenger, unlike the standard Softail. These features give it a higher cost, but it’s still an affordable option, estimated at $10,210 for a 2017 model.
Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
The Fat Boy is another classic Softail, famous for its iconic appearance alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Terminator 2”. Its big, edgy build has made quite the impression since then. But beyond its looks, we also believe it’s one of the best Harley-Davidson motorcycles ever made. This model name might sound similar to the “Fat Bob” but bear in mind that these motorcycles are pretty far apart. Also, the Fat Boy does cost a bit more, but if you’re going for a 2016 model, it’ll likely cost you less than $10,000.
Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight
The Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight was short-lived but remains a special model, no doubt. The company introduced it for the first time in 2010 to join its lineup of Sportsters, but it stuck around only till the 2022 model year. This motorcycle notably came with the evolution-powered engine, which has been regarded as one of Harley’s best engines. And while the Fourty-Eight isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, if it rocks your boat, you could get a 5-year-old model for about $7,000.
